Despite being famous for playing a 107 year-old vampire, Robert Pattinson was actually born on May 13, 1986, in London, England. His father was a luxury car importer while his mother worked at a modeling agency. It was no doubt thanks to his mother’s connections that Robert Pattinson dabbled in modeling in his youth. He modeled between the ages of 12 to 15, ending his short career when, as he claims, “I stopped looking like a girl.”
Robert Pattinson begins his acting career
Around age 15, Robert Pattinson got involved in amateur theatre in London through the Barnes Theatre Company. He landed his first movie role at age 18 in Mira Nair’s Vanity Fair, starring Reese Witherspoon and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Amazing director? Check. Award-winning leading lady? Check. The film had all the necessary ingredients to help turn a unknown new actor into a bone fide star, and it would have been a great start for Robert Pattinson had his scenes not been left on the editing room floor. If the sales of the DVD have gone up since Robert Pattinson fans have discovered that you can still see some of his scenes in the DVD version, then Focus Features knows who they have to thank for that.
Despite the disappointing start (but a start that nevertheless makes for a great bio detail for an actor once he actually does become famous), Robert Pattinson soon got a genuine great break when he was cast as Cedric Diggory in two of the Harry Potter flicks. With kids and adults alike obsessing over the series, Robert Pattinson got his first real taste of stardom and soon started to get recognized by fans on the streets of London.

With a few smaller roles also under his belt, Robert Pattinson decided to try his luck in Hollywood. He was sleeping on his agent’s couch when he went to audition for Twilight. Director Catherine Hardwicke had Robert Pattinson come to her home to read opposite the film’s leading lady, Kristen Stewart. “I’d seen a zillion really cute guys,” Hardwicke told GQ for the magazine’s April 2009 issue, which features Robert Patterson on the cover. “But that was the problem. The all looked like the super-cute kid in your high school. The prom king, or the captain of the football team. They didn’t look like they were from a different world and time.”

After just three days at the box office, Twilight had pulled in approximately $70 million, and the online community had found its new obsession: Robert Pattinson. It wasn’t long before the paparazzi deemed him a high priority target, and they no doubt had to make tough life decisions, like whether they would spend the day following Robert Pattinson or Zac Efron.
Instead of eating up the exposure and milking his moment in the sun, Robert Pattinson has kept the fans and production houses mainly in the dark about what he’s going to do next, similar to the break Leonardo Dicaprio took after Titanic before attaching his name to The Beach. Although the third installment of Twilight, Eclipse, is now in theaters and there’s still more to come in 2011, it still remains to be seen whether or not Pattinson will be the next Leonardo. His upcoming roles in Bel Ami and Water for Elephants will be better barometers of his acting skills than the Twilight series.
robert pattinson, the musician
Robert Pattinson performs two songs on the Twilight soundtrack, “Never Think,” which he co-wrote with Sam Bradley, and “Let Me Sign.” Yes, that’s right, he can play a guitar, compose songs and sing too. It seems kind of unfair to the rest of us, but if vampire movies have taught us anything, it’s that life sometimes just sucks.
To buy a cigarette is the perfect type of a perfect pleasure. It is exquisite, and it leaves one unsatisfied. What more can one want?
